THE GHOST STORIES

In JANUARY of 2008 we rented the house to a young family of four that had a fire in their Jarrettsville home and moved into The Salem Farm House for three weeks while their house is being restored and cleaned.

~ Every night for 5 weeks, after the parents had put their 4 year old daughter to sleep, they heard a loud thud and footsteps running down the hall to the bathroom.  They would run upstairs to their daughter’s room to find her sleeping peacefully.

~ On numerus occasions, in the middle of the afternoon when the daughter was trying to take her daily nap, she would call her mother upstairs and ask her to tell the man & woman in the corner to stop talking.  She said she couldn't sleep with all their noise.  The mother aske the ghosts to be quiet & they listened.

~ In the middle of the day, the daughter played and jumped up & down on her bed with a little boy & a little girl.

~ In the middle of one afternoon the daughter was standing at the top of the steps.  She called her mom & told her that a man was trying to push her down the stairs.  She asked her mom to make the man stop & suggested putting him in a "time-out" for being mean.  The mother put the ghost in a "time-out" & he never bothered the little girl again.

~ On a few occasions, the parents would hear a baby's crying coming through the baby moniter.  But it wasn't their baby who was crying.

~ Although the parents would hear other noises besides the jumping and running, they never witness any " Ghosts".  It was, however, evident that their daughter was seeing real images as if they had rented the house with the man and the two children.

~ The parents were quite relieved to get back into their own house.

In JUNE of 2008, we rented the house full time to a middle aged lady name Suzanne.  She has signed a 1 year lease & lived at The Salem Farm House alone with her two "pug" dogs.

~ During the first night at her new home, Suzanne had a dream that she was being choked.  She said she felt like she was floating above the room, watching herself being choked by a woman dressed in clothing from the 1800’s.  When Suzanne woke up, she could feel the woman sitting on top of her with her hands around her throat.

~ Suzanne also told us that her dogs were always staring at something in one corner of the Parlor.

In DECEMBER of 2008, Suzanne went on vacation & asked for a dog-sitter while she is gone…

~ A 35 year old mother & her 3 year old son went over around 6pm to take care of the dogs.  The mother was writing a note to Suzanne while her son is playing in a nearby closet- he liked how the lights automatically went on & off when he opened & closed the closet door.  Suddenly, the child was leaning up against his mom’s leg, looking at the ground.  The mom asked if he was ok, he said ‘yes’.  The mom asked if something was wrong, the son said ‘no’.  Then, the child asked his mom, “Mommy, who is that lady?”  The mom asked, “What lady?”  The child said, “The lady in the closet.” When the mother opened the doors to find no one there, her son turned and ran towards the dining room looking for the lady, asking " Where did the lady go?"

Over the last weekend in Februrary 2010, we invited Staffprd Paranormal, http://www.staffordparanormal.com/index.html# , to spend 2 nights in the Salem Farmhouse.  The group arrived on Friday evening...

WHY THE GHOSTS CAME BACK........
In 2001, the Salem Farm House went under extensive restoration. The project took two years. In 2005, the project was entered in a Nation wide Traditional Architectural Competition put together by the Old House Journal Magazine and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The competition was called the " The 2005 Great American Home Awards ". The Salem Farm House won the " Kitchen Restoration Award " and placed second in the " Interior Restoration". The Awards were displayed in the June 2005 issue of Old House Journal. When it viewed by the author Chippy Irvine, she requested photographing the Salem Farm House to be part of a book. The book, Shades of Country
(order from Taunton Press ) is now out and on the bookstands.   We love it and it's on display at the house.  Thanks
Chippy.
