The Salem Farm House had once been the home of one of the many large Agricultural and Livestock Farms that surrounded Baltimore in the 18th and 19th Centuries. An original land " patent " for the three hundred acres dates to 1749 and is on file in the Archives in Harford County.

The original Farmhouse was constructed in 1848. James Rampley, a Farmer and his family first lived in the house when it was built as only four rooms. They kept the two first floor rooms heated in the winter by small wood stoves; one for the kitchen and one in the parlor. The two bedrooms were on the second floor. The rear section of the house where the new kitchen is located was added fifteen years later.

The Salem Farm House now sits on five and a half acres as a result of the last subdivision in 1979. It's land remains agricultural and used for horses.
